Billing
Your billing date can be any day from the first of the month through the 28th. If you have questions regarding administration and billing, call your agent or our toll-free customer service number at 1-800-628-5433.
Employee Participation Changes
When new employees are hired and become eligible, you can contact your agent who will review the products available with your new employee and complete an application if they would like to apply for coverage. Your monthly billing will be adjusted to reflect the addition of the new employee and the coverage and premium them have selected for payroll deduction.
If an employee terminates employment for any reason and wishes to change to a direct personal bill, you can contact your agent who will take care of the adjustment to your monthly invoice. They will also contact the terminating employee to provide them with their billing options to retain their coverage. Employees with direct personal billing have the option of paying monthly (using a pre-authorized check payment plan), quarterly, semiannually or annually.
Policy Changes or Service
Employees may call your agent or Baltimore Life’s Customer Service Department at 1-800-628-5433 to make changes to existing policies.
ERISA Issues
Worksite policies are normally paid through individual payroll deduction and fall within the Group Safe Harbor provision. If you plan to contribute toward any of the premium or replace group life insurance with new individual policies, Baltimore Life Benefit Solutions could be construed to be an employment-related benefit subject to the Employment Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). If you are not contributing to the premium and are not canceling any existing group life insurance benefit, Baltimore Life Benefit Solutions likely does not fall under ERISA. However, we are not able to provide any legal advice. Please consult your tax and legal advisors for further clarification on ERISA determinations.
