Baltimore Life Garners Industry Kudos

For Immediate Release

OWINGS MILLS, MD, NOVEMBER 17, 2004—Baltimore Life Insurance has received recognition from two industry groups.

Baltimore Life was a "finalist" in the A. M. Best E-Fusion Award competition, at their recent meeting in Baltimore. The E-Fusion competition focuses on the use of technology in the insurance industry. The company was the only life insurer among the six finalists in the "Underwriting Management" category. Their entry, based on the INSpeed electronic application and automated underwriting system was notable because it "improves the underwriting and issue efficiency by utilizing a call center, electronic application, automated underwriting and voice-recognition signature technology."

In addition, Baltimore Life's former Chairman, Joseph E. Blair, was recognized by the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA). IMSA sponsored a half-page ad in honor of Mr. Blair in The National Underwriter. The ad highlighted Mr. Blair's many contributions to the community, the insurance industry, and IMSA. He was one of the driving forces behind the formation of IMSA, and industry peers elected him the first Chair. Mr. Blair is retiring from the Board after serving since the inception of IMSA.

"We are proud of the recognition Baltimore Life has received from these highly respected organizations," said L. John Pearson, Chairman, President, and CEO of Baltimore Life. "E-Fusion recognizes our commitment to the sophisticated technology that 21st century agents want and need. IMSA's recognition of Joe Blair honors an exceptional individual who led Baltimore Life, and the life insurance industry, with integrity."
