Baltimore Life Names New Controller

For Immediate Release

OWINGS MILLS, MD, AUGUST 23, 2002—The Baltimore Life Companies has named Richard A. Spencer, III as its new controller.

Most recently, Spencer served as the Senior Vice President, Finance of InsLogic Corporation, a private label insurance broker, headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina. Prior to joining InsLogic, Spencer worked for 6 years in the Washington, DC offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers, managing the delivery of audit and strategic risk management services in its Financial Services practice.

"Rick brings a wealth of both financial and insurance experience to Baltimore Life," said David K. Ficca, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Baltimore Life Companies. "He will be a valuable addition to our financial staff."

Spencer earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Mount Saint Mary's College. He and his wife and three children reside in Kensington, Maryland.
