News Releases Kurt Schmoke Joins Baltimore Life Board of Directors For Immediate Release OWINGS MILLS, MD, MAY 9, 2002The Baltimore Life Companies has appointed former Baltimore Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke to its board of directors. Now a partner with the international law firm of Wilmer, Cutler, and Pickering, Schmoke served three terms as the city's mayor, from 1987 to 1999. "Kurt Schmoke brings years of legal, business and public service experience to the table, as well as an ongoing interest and commitment to a region that's so important to Baltimore Life," said L. John Pearson, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of The Baltimore Life Companies. "We look forward to working with him." Schmoke was born in Baltimore. He attended the city's public schools and graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from Yale University in 1971. After attending Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, he earned a degree in 1976 from Harvard Law School. Schmoke entered law practice with the Baltimore firm of Piper and Marbury, and in 1977, he joined President Carter. s White House domestic policy staff. In 1978, he returned to Baltimore as an assistant United States attorney. Four years later, he was elected state's attorney, the city's chief prosecuting officer. Founded in 1882, Baltimore Life is one of the oldest life insurance companies in America. Baltimore Life is licensed in 49 states and the District of Columbia. ### |
