OWINGS MILLS, MD, OCTOBER, 2002—The Baltimore Life Companies has hired John J. Patterson as its senior vice president of operations. In this role, Patterson will oversee all aspects of customer service, underwriting, claims, and information technology. Previously, Patterson served as a consultant to Baltimore Life and held the position of "acting" vice president of information services.

"John has contributed a wealth of technology, operations and management experience to Baltimore Life as a consultant," said L. John Pearson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Baltimore Life Companies. "We are thrilled that he is expanding his role with the company and joining our senior management team."

Prior to joining Baltimore Life, Patterson was President of HMG Technologies, a regional strategic systems integration firm. Patterson's also served as COO of Barton Cotton and as a partner with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Patterson is a graduate of Marquette University, and has done graduate work at the University of Delaware. He serves on the board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Maryland. Patterson lives in Butler, Maryland, with his wife, Katharine, and two daughters.
